The Maasai of Northern Tanzania
The Maasai are one of Tanzania’s most recognisable ethnic groups, historically semi-nomadic cattle herders who have inhabited the plains around Arusha, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti for centuries, maintaining much of their traditional dress, language, and social structure today.
A boma is a circular homestead of huts built by the women of the family, enclosed by a thornbush fence that protects livestock at night. Visits are arranged directly with the community, and proceeds typically support the boma’s families.
